Fairbairn's first Outreach to Schools
From January to June 2011, Fairbairn House actively sponsored an educational project with two local schools. Grades 4 and 5 classes at Wakefield Elementary joined senior students at St. Michael's High School in Low to experience heritage in the digital age.
First, expert resources gave practical workshops on preparing to do oral history interviewing, then on taking, uploading and manipulating digital images. Students then interviewed local seniors about their lives in times past, and edited this digital material. Using both their own photos, classic heritage photos, and their own artwork, the students created a comprehensive website and attractive, professionally-produced wall banners.
Our thanks to the Department of Canadian Heritage for project funding, and the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network (QAHN) for coordination and encouragement.
